Multilocular Hydatid Cyst of Liver

Abstract:

SUMMARY This paper speaks about a 63 year old woman with chronic non-specific pain in superior abdominal region and progressive cachexia. Clinical and paraclinical investigations revealed a large non­homogen mass of right liver lobe. After surgical approach 90% of right liver lobe was involved by a solid mass with necrotic areas. Microscopic evaluation disclosed a chronic granulomatous inflammation with a lot of microcystic spaces filled by homogenous eosinophilic substances. Above findings accomodate with multilocular echinococcosis which is a rare type of hydatidosis in the world.

Laparoscopic management of hydatid cyst of liver.

We describe the laparoscopic excision of a hydatid cyst in the liver. During the procedure, done after treatment with the scolicidal agents praziquantel and albendazole, care was taken to prevent spillage of scolices during evacuation of contents and to excise the entire germinal epithelium. The patient had no immediate or short-term complications and is asymptomatic 3 months later.
